DESTINATION WEDDING – NEW ZEALAND
A destination wedding in New Zealand, how amazing is that! Together with the talented Anne Paar, a Dutch wedding and portrait photographer living in Raglan – New Zealand, I had that opportunity this November. After visiting this beautiful country for the first time, traveling for four weeks and seeing the most amazing places I have ever seen, this was the perfect ending of a perfect trip.
That morning I arrived at Karapiro Downs, Cambridge – located only 4 kms from Red Barn, the wedding venue. Karapiro Downs is located right on the edge of the Waikato river sitting perfectly half way between Rotorua and Hamilton. The house has large indoor and outdoor living areas, 3 bathrooms and toilets plus great views, making the perfect location for the bridal party. The bride is the lovely Kirra and that day she is getting married to Isaac. I felt very welcome with this family who I got to know by a mutual friend. After some time Anne arrived and we started our work. What a fun we had! Getting ready pics, outside pics, the beautiful peonies, the bridal party outside and what a backdrop. The groomsmen were getting ready in Hamilton, 40 minutes from this place and we did’t see them before the ceremony. Isaac and his 4 groomsmen arrived all dressed up at the wedding location.
In the afternoon the bridal party moved from Karapiro Downs to Red Barn. The Red Barn was originally built around the turn of the century as a livery stable where stagecoaches could change horses. The Red Barn has now become and iconic and unique wedding and function venue in the Waikato with amazing views. The ceremony was outside under an old oak tree and – of course – with an amazing view. And also inside were they would have their buffet looked wonderful with a lot of beautiful details. The (cutting of the) wedding cake was for later that evening and would b served as dessert.
After the ceremony family and friends congratulated the couple, there was mix and mingle time with guests and we made the formal pictures. After that the time was right for the Bridal party to head off for location photos. With this lovely couple, with a backdrop as from the Hobbit movies, all those deer, rocks and a beautiful pond it felt like a dream. I have the best job in the world! After the location photos we went back to the party and it was already time for a drink and the main buffet.
Dear Kirra and Isaac (and family!), so much thanks for having me. This first destination wedding is really special to me and I feel so grateful. Dear Anne, thanks for all the laughs and the perfect co-operation. Hope to see you all again soon.
